Setting Sail on a Honeymoon Cruise

in The Honeymoon
A happy couple celebrates with cocktails on the upper deck of a cruise ship.

If you’ve ever been on a cruise vacation and loved it, you’re probably well aware that cruising can be a great way to get a good deal on a fun, all-inclusive travel package – often with on-board extras, shopping vouchers or upgrades to make the package even more attractive.

All Inclusive Honeymoon Cruise Packages

For honeymooners, cruising can be an exceptionally sweet deal as many cruise liners such as Carnival and others cater to newly married couples. Many honeymoon packages include in-room goodies such as flowers and champagne, priority boarding and other little touches to make this special trip as stress-free and relaxing, or as adventure-filled as you want it to be.

By working with a travel agent, you may even have access to more deals, as agents specializing in honeymoons cruises typically have existing relationships with the cruise liners which can be leveraged to your benefit.

Planning for a Honeymoon on a Cruise Ship

As you research different cruise lines for your honeymoon and discuss various packages with your travel agent or on-board wedding coordinator, don’t be afraid to inquire about customizing your vacation to best meet your desires – including spa passes, in-room or private dining options, different honeymoon suite configurations, etc.

Even without all of the nice little extras, however, you can count on your honeymoon cruise to offer a hands-off, stress-free way to enjoy you first vacation as newlyweds. And, you won’t have to worry about incurring additional costs for meals, entertainment and many other activities at sea. If nothing else, the fresh ocean air and glorious sunsets are often enough to make any lingering stress from months of wedding planning simply melt away. 🙂

Destination Wedding on a Cruise Ship?

Yes, that’s a thing! 🙂 In addition to catering to honeymooners, many cruise lines also offer full wedding packages to couples wishing to throw a destination wedding for friends and family.

If you are considering a destination wedding as part of your cruise, be sure to check in with the cruise line’s wedding coordinator prior to booking anything to be sure that the options and amenities offered match up to your expectations. Most lines will offer a wedding officiant, basic floral arrangements, a wedding cake and some kind of entertainment option.

One additional consideration as you plan a cruise wedding is whether your guests will join you for the ceremony and reception festivities and then disembark before the ship sets sail, or whether you would like to have your loved ones join you for the entire cruise. You may also decide to leave this up to your guests to decide on their own, since they are already there anyway and may want to extend their trip.

Bon voyage!
